I love camping, but having to bring all my gear and unload it and pitch a tent and blah blah blah - it’s just a lot to have to think every single time. A lot of my friends love camping as well but have experienced a similar struggle, even if some of them haven’t admitted it yet. I went camping with a friend recently and when I got out of my car to unload, he started setting up a bed… in his car.
Turns out he got the TESMAT – aka Tesla mattress – which lets him pitch up a bed in his car, so he doesn’t have to deal with the hassle of, well, anything. He gets to just park in a nice camping spot, set up a bed in his car, maybe even play a nice crackling fire on his dashboard, and rest easy for the night (or a quick nap).
Luckily I have a Tesla too, so I jumped on that bandwagon really, really quickly. I still have my tent and camping gear, but I have a feeling I won’t be lugging those around much anymore. Here are the highlights:
Easy set-up
This thing takes, oh, maybe about 5 entire minutes to set up? I keep it in my trunk at all times (you never know) and when I want to set it up all I do is put down my back seats, unzip the mattress bag, and let it fold out in my car. Aaaand that’s about it.
Privacy
If you don’t want anyone peeking through your windows while you sleep, and I really hope you don’t, TESMAT also sells a privacy screen that covers and blocks light from the front windshield, side windows, and rear windshield. It functions as a privacy barrier and blackout blinds, so I get to sleep without having to be woken up at the break of dawn. Of course, it leaves the sunroof uncovered so you can get your stargazing in.
Simple packing
Packing this thing is just as easy as setting it up – the mattress comes with a carrying case (22” x 14” x 10”) and compresses the mattress immediately with a magnetic strap made to store easily in your sub-trunk. Major perk: the TESMAT carrying case is insulated and waterproof, so you can also use it as a cooler for drinks and snacks.
Glamping without the expense
I have the luxury of sleeping on fitted TESMAT sheets, the down pillows I love, and my home comforter/throw blanket, and not have to worry about them getting dirty. Aside from the mattress itself, TESMAT offers fitted bed sheets that are hotel-soft, machine washable, and wrinkle & fade resistant. It comes with one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and one pillowcase. Other than just staying in a hotel, this is pretty much the best glamping experience you can get.
TESMAT is available for Model 3 and Model Y - it also fits other models but is optimized to fit perfectly in those two versions. The mattress is made up of 3 individual 2.6” thick memory foam mats (form a twin size) that fold and stack in its designated bag. Also, the mattress covers are removable and washable, so I get to feel as comfortable as I do in my bed at home. For all my campers out there - TESMAT is a game-changer.
