A Screen-Free Toy That Keeps My Child Engaged for Hours - Busy Books

In our house, we’ve just passed the wild twos, which any parent knows is quite the ride. Yet, the difference in our son in the last couple months has really been awakening, especially with how he plays. He’s not just banging blocks together anymore. He wants to “make things happen” when he plays, like telling me what his dinosaur is doing, or giving his cars little jobs.
As a mother, it’s been amazing to watch and so warming to see your child growing and discovering themselves. At first, we were just giving him some new toys to play with, letting him do his own thing and turning his bedroom into a space he could play in. But the more I read about supporting his early development, the more I wondered if there was more I could do to support this new spark in him.
I began looking online to see what I could do and from iPad games to worksheets, none of it really aligned with what we wanted to be our go-to. More than anything we wanted something that didn’t prioritize screens or turned his playtime into something more serious than it has to be at his age.
During my search I began learning more about montessori-inspired play and have been trying to add elements into his life. But it was my in-laws who surprised us with My First Book Busy Farm for his birthday, and it turned out to be exactly what I’d been looking for (without even knowing it).
It’s a Montessori-inspired busy book that supports their independent play while also growing skills like problem solving, fine motor skills, and cognitive abilities. Filled with interactive sensory features, from matching games to zippers & snaps, My First Book has leveled up his play time in a way we love. And once he figured it out right away and was hooked. Not to mention it comes with a backpack inspired by the book that he absolutely loves. He wears it all the time, even around the house, and it has been great for trips and all his snacks and little toys.
It’s been six months and since then, I’ve already noticed a difference in how he plays. He has a lot more confidence in his storytelling and problem solving. Now he can sit for an hour or more refining his motor skills by piecing together the puzzles in the busy book. After seeing him play with his Busy Farm Book, a few other parents have asked about it, and some have gone on to buy their own.
For me, it’s a rare find. It’s something that’s as good for him as it is for me. He’s learning and having fun, and I get those stretches of time where he’s happily in his own world. It gives me a chance to have a cup of coffee, get a few things done, or just take a breather. Definitely one of the best toys we’ve gotten at this stage.
