How PiFi Quietly Fixed the Hardest Part of Pet Parenting—My Honest Review

When I adopted my first cat, I swore I’d be a model pet parent. I bought her high protein food, measured portions carefully, and turned my house into her pet sanctuary. It worked well enough, until I added a second cat, and later, a dog.

Suddenly, feeding time was more than I could handle. My dog inhaled anything in sight, my younger cat would sneak into my older cat’s prescription food, and I felt like I was constantly chasing them around just to keep food where it belonged. I tried separating them into different rooms, buying multiple feeders, and even standing guard while they ate, but it never lasted. Someone always ended up stealing food, someone else went hungry, and I was left stressed and overspending.

That’s when I stumbled across PiFi, a new smart pet feeder I saw mentioned at Global Pet Expo. At first, it sounded like one of those over-engineered gadgets that’s more gimmick than help. Face recognition for pets? Waterproof? I felt like I would be paying for features I wouldn’t even use. But the more I looked into it, the more I realized it might actually solve all the problems I’d been dealing with for years. So I decided to take the risk and order one.

When it arrived, I set it up right away. It was surprisingly easy, just a couple of steps. The feeder has two hoppers, so I could fill one with regular kibble for my dog and the other with the prescription food my older cat needs. Then I snapped a few photos of each of them in the app so PiFi could tell who was who. Within minutes, it was ready to go. And honestly? I was shocked at how well it worked. The very first time my dog tried to nose in on the cat’s bowl, PiFi didn’t budge. It only dispensed food when the right pet was in front of it.

Over the next few weeks, I started realizing just how much this one machine was changing my daily routine. Feeding time went from stressful to calm. My anxious older cat, who used to rush through meals before anyone could steal them, actually started eating slowly again. No more scarf and barf! My dog still tries to test the system, but he can’t get away with it anymore.

The PiFi app gives me notifications whenever someone eats. Even better, it lets me track hydration, nap, and play time while I’m at work or traveling. I can even set reminders for medicine, which has saved me more than once. There are even dual cameras, so I can peek in and talk to them if I want. My favorite part is the little video snippets PiFi captures of them eating, it lets me catch moments I’d otherwise miss.

What I didn’t expect was how useful the health tracking would be. PiFi keeps a log of exactly how much each pet eats, and after a while, you notice patterns. One week my dog skipped breakfast two days in a row, and because I had the records, I knew it wasn’t just in my head, something was off. Sure enough, he ended up needing a quick vet visit, and I caught it earlier than I probably would have otherwise. Being able to send that data directly to my vet made me feel like I was able to be proactive with their health instead of paying the price in big vet bills.

Now, I’ll be honest, PiFi isn’t the cheapest option out there. At first I hesitated because of the price tag. But when I compared it to what I was already spending on multiple feeders, wasted prescription food, and the random gadgets I’d bought over the years that didn’t really solve anything, it started to make sense. In fact, I’ve ended up saving money because I’m not constantly replacing food that got stolen or overeaten.

It’s been about five months now, and I can honestly say I don’t know how I managed without it. Mealtimes are calmer, my pets are healthier, and I don’t feel like I’m failing them by not being home 24/7 to supervise. The waterproof design even means I’ve been able to set it up outside on nice days, which the dog especially loves. What started as a “maybe this will help” purchase has turned into something I rely on every single day.

If you have more than one pet and you’ve ever felt guilty or stressed about feeding them, PiFi is worth it. My pets are happier, I’m less stressed, and for the first time in years, mealtime feels like a moment of calm instead of chaos.
