Our editors reviewed the best places to shop for clean beauty. After an in-depth review, they determined Beauty Heroes was the clear top choice.

Our Review of the Best Retailers for Clean Beauty

For those of us who are skincare-obsessed, there’s nothing quite like discovering a new product that your skin absolutely loves. The excitement of testing out a fresh serum, hydrating moisturizer, or game-changing cleanser—and having it earn a permanent spot in your routine—is unmatched. That’s exactly why I’ve always been a fan of subscription boxes. Whether it’s a surprise selection or a thoughtfully curated edit, they’re one of the best ways to explore new brands and ingredients while indulging in a little self-care.

But last year, I made the switch to clean skincare. As I learned more about toxic ingredients, questionable formulations, and unsustainable practices, I realized I didn’t want to put just anything on my skin—especially if it didn’t align with my values. The transition was worth it, but one thing quickly became clear: truly clean beauty subscription boxes are surprisingly hard to find.

So, I set out to explore two of the leading options and ultimately pick a winner.

Beauty Heroes: Discovery Box

Value: $120+ per box

Each monthly Beauty Heroes subscription box features one of 95+ eco-conscious and clean beauty brands from around the world. Unlike some subscription services that focus purely on ingredients, Beauty Heroes takes a more holistic approach—considering brand values, ethical sourcing, and even sustainable packaging.

Every box includes 2-4 full-sized products with a total retail value of $120 or more. Since selections are carefully curated for the season, you’re likely to receive skincare that’s actually useful for the time of year. Due to limited supply, boxes sell out quickly, adding an element of exclusivity.

Subscribers also get a 15% discount on all purchases from Beauty Heroes' online store—perfect if you fall in love with a product and want to stock up.

Pricing:

  • 3 months: $45.95/month

  • 6 months: $41.95/month

  • 12 months: $39.95/month

The Detox Market: The Detox Box

Value: $110+ per box

Another popular option is The Detox Box, which focuses heavily on clean ingredients. Like Beauty Heroes, this subscription highlights brands that meet strict non-toxic standards, and each box includes additional information to help subscribers learn more about clean beauty.

However, The Detox Box differs in its structure: you’ll receive one or more full-sized products per month, with a guaranteed retail value of $110 or more. While the brand selection is great, there’s less emphasis on curation beyond ingredients.

One notable downside? Unlike Beauty Heroes, The Detox Market doesn’t offer a subscriber discount on future purchases. Their loyalty program, Detox Points, also can’t be applied toward subscription boxes.

Pricing:

  • 3 months: $45.95/month

  • 6 months: $39.95/month

Which One Is Better?

Both subscription boxes are fantastic for anyone looking to dive into clean beauty, but Beauty Heroes stands out for its higher box value, curated selections, and exclusive 15% discount for subscribers.

While The Detox Box is slightly cheaper at the 6-month mark ($39.95 vs. $41.95 for Beauty Heroes), the difference is minimal. Given the added perks and savings on future purchases, Beauty Heroes offers better overall value.

If you’re serious about discovering high-quality clean beauty products, Beauty Heroes is the clear winner.
